PaveDrain | Covered Bridge Park, Ada MI

Background

Ada, Michigan is transforming its historic Leonard Field Park into the new Covered Bridge Park — a riverfront community destination along the Thornapple River, anchored by the town’s iconic covered bridge.

The redevelopment turns the site into a multi-use public space with expanded parking, a playground, a splash pad, and pickleball courts, all while protecting the adjacent river.

Challenge

A busy riverfront park adds impervious parking and gathering areas just steps from the Thornapple River. The design needed to manage stormwater on site — reducing runoff to the river — while delivering durable, attractive, accessible surfaces and preserving the historic covered-bridge setting.

Solution

interfaceh2o supplied approximately 10,000 sq ft of PaveDrain permeable articulating concrete block. PaveDrain captures, stores, and infiltrates stormwater directly through the pavement surface, reducing runoff and the need for traditional underground detention. Its durable, load-bearing blocks create a low-maintenance, high-infiltration surface well suited to parks, parking, and high-traffic public spaces — helping protect the adjacent Thornapple River.

  • Provide durable, permeable pavement for expanded parking and visitor access
  • Manage stormwater on site and reduce runoff to the Thornapple River
  • Support a multi-use community park with playground, splash pad, and pickleball courts
  • Enhance accessibility and pedestrian circulation throughout the park
  • Preserve the historic covered bridge setting through low-impact, sustainable design
