Flexamat Plus | Douglas Property, Douglas MI

Background

A private lakefront property in Douglas, Michigan needed to stabilize an eroding shoreline embankment. Wave action and runoff were steadily wearing away the slope along the bayou, threatening the bank and the property’s waterfront setting.

Interfaceh2o supplied Flexamat Plus — a vegetated, articulated concrete block mat — to armor the slope and deliver durable, long-term erosion protection that blends naturally into the lawn.

Challenge

The eroding embankment had to be armored against ongoing wave action and runoff without disrupting the natural, low-maintenance appearance of the waterfront. The solution needed to resist scour, hold the slope permanently, establish vegetation for a natural finish, and reduce sediment loss to protect water quality in the adjacent waterway — all while preserving the property’s shoreline access.

Solution

Shoreline & Erosion Protection — Flexamat Plus Articulated Concrete Block Mat. Interfaceh2o supplied approximately 2,325 sq ft of Flexamat Plus. Flexamat Plus combines durable, tightly spaced concrete blocks with a high-strength geogrid and vegetation to create a flexible, permanent erosion-control surface. It conforms to slopes and shorelines, resists scour and wave action, and establishes vegetation for a natural appearance — making it an ideal solution for lakefront embankments, channels, and spillways.
